Previous experience prior to founding Skout Strategy?

I’m a mom of two which requires a lot of patience and empathy, and has really changed how I show up for others, especially professionally. I’ve spent the last ten years helping brands refine their digital relationship with their customers, and establish their visual voice. I think every single client, project, and role has helped shape who I am, what I believe, and how I function in a team and support a team.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given?

You can tell a man what to do and how to do it, but not at the same time.

What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join Skout?

Be willing to dream big. Listen with an open mind and an empty plate. Be willing to learn and then relearn.

What are your three favorite bands or songs?

Three songs I play on repeat: “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship, “Purple Rain” by Prince, and “In a Sentimental Mood” by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.

Three bands/artists I love: Whitesnake, Local Natives, and Gardens & Villa.

Top 3 favorite podcasts or books:

Four favorite podcasts: The Goop Podcast, The Dave Chang Podcast, and How I Built This, and LeVar Burton Reads.

Four favorite books: “The Secret Life of Lobsters” by Trevor Corson, “Paradise” by Toni Morrison, and “The History of Love” by Nicole Krauss.

Sorry, can’t (just) choose three.

The future of CEA looks like…

I think the future of food and CEA is really about improving access points for communities— it needs to be intentional planning with more thought around who needs the food, who’s consuming the food, and who is helping run and manage these farms. The pandemic has been and was eye opening for a lot of reasons, but it really showed how important localized services and products are to the long term health and sustainability of this industry.

What’s the most inspiring part about your job?

I love hearing all the dreams, plans, and misadventures. I’m always so inspired by the pursuit, insight, and determination.

On the weekend you can find me…

Outside in the garden with my family, reading a magazine, and trying to tackle the never-ending pile of laundry.

Favorite thing to cook/bake?

I’ll bake anything at least once or twice but I always come back to chocolate chip cookies, a classic pound cake, and flaky biscuits.
