Get to Know Jessica
Before her morning calls, you can find Jessica in her garden planting, watering and cutting local fresh flowers for her farm, Farm47. And if she’s not working on a project for Skout, she’s likely working on something for the New Mexico Flower Collective.
Meet Jessica, our Chief Cultivation Officer.
Q: New year, tell us your big dreams for the year— what do you want to tackle and/or accomplish?
To find opportunities to integrate different cultivation methods (indoor, greenhouse and soil farming) so that all farmers are more successful.
Q: What did you learn in 2022?
We can make more progress and have more success working with others than working in isolation. I’ve become a big fan of creating partnerships to lighten everyone’s load and get us further to where we all want to be.
Q: What’s your favorite project in 2023?
Looking forward to seeing all the projects we work on get built in 2023.
Q: What would you like to see more of in this industry? Less of?
I’d like to see more detailed sharing of successes and failures. Let’s all stop hiding behind a veil of “Intellectual property” so that we see more vertical farms being built and staying in business.
Q: What can we expect from you/Skout this year?
To keep working on making it easier for entrepreneurs and organizations to grow food for their community.
Q: What are you growing this year in your garden and why?
243 different specialty cut flowers! Spring favorites: anemones, ranunculus, snapdragons, bells of Ireland, and Iceland poppies.
Q: What are 2023 travel plans?
Somewhere warm with a beach next winter because the rest of the year is for farming.
Q: What are you listening to or reading this year?
Whatever is on the “popular” list at the library.
Q: We should all binge _____________ right now.
No clue, I’m in a real entertainment drought.
